• The Romanian Government has admitted it made a mistake when it tried to force British international operators to buy transit permits, but has promised free transit in the future (CM 1-7 Feb). Tens of hauliers spent several days camped on Romanian borders after being told they faced heavy fines if they entered the country without the US$500 (2330) permits. This was in contravention of a bilateral agreement signed by the Romanian and British Governments guaranteeing free transit.
The permit scheme for hauliers picking up loads in Romania for haulage into a non-EU country remains unchanged.
