oat" over a licensing

application for a change of oper Fridge Freight (Fyvie) Ltd was said to be to blame for the operation of a vehicle without ilcence authority, when the company was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £45 by Wetherby magistrates.

Fridge Freight, of Gauchill, Kintore, Aberdeenshire, pleaded guilty to using a goods vehicle without an operator's licence at Boston Spa on 11 May, 1989.

The court was told that the vehicle concerned had been stopped in a weight check and a traffic examiner noticed that it was not displaying an operator's licence identity disc.

In mitigation it was said that Fridge Freight had applied for the variation of its operating centre. However, the papers were lost by the Scottish traffic area. The company had to make a fresh application and that attracted environmental objections. The licence was eventually granted on 15 May after a public inquiry. Because of the confusion surrounding the company's operator's licence, a licence identity disc for the vehicle concerned was not applied for until 24 July.

The magistrates fined the company £20 and ordered it to pay £25 prosecution costs.
