• Samways Travel of Leicester has had its PSV licence cut down to one vehicle for six months because of poor maintenance standards.
Sadrudin Sayani, trading as Samways Travel, had held a PSV licence since 1983. It was renewed for four vehicles for two years in 1986, but the licence duration was cut and a warning given at a public inquiry over maintenance a year later. There was a further public inquiry in January 1988, following the issue of an immediate prohibition notice. The licence was cut to three vehicles and renewed for a two-year period only. Once again, Sayani was given a warning.
Vehicle examiner Michael Faulkner said he had inspected two vehicles in November, issuing one with an immediat prohibition endorsed "negleci because the centre propshaft universal joint was seriously worn.
Sayani said that he had sui fered from poor maintenance and repair after his original maintenance contractors had closed down, and he had onll found a temporary replacement. He had failed to notify the Traffic Area of two convi tions, as he had assumed tha they would be notified automatically.
Eastern Traffic Commissio er Brigadier Boyd told Sayan to read the conditions on his licence. Revoking the existinl licence, Boyd said that he WE just satisfied that Sayani coul cope with one vehicle but th( were no further chances left.
