Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Seven drivers at Welsh brewery Crown Buckley have been made redundant as part of the company's plans to centralise its warehousing and distribution operations.

So far 13 redundancies have been announced and the Transport and General Workers' Union fears that as many as 32 jobs will be lost by the end of February. "Our disappointment is that less than a year ago the company was talking about restructuring and expansion," says TGWU district officer Brian Johnson.

The company's brewing and sales will be based at Llanelli, with other operations transferred to Pontyclun in Mid Glamorgan.

Crown Buckley is also cutting its fleet from 28 to 25 units and is replacing smaller seven-tonne Bedfords with 10tonne ERFs, to increase the payload.

"Most breweries are centralising their operations, to have better control. It is a painful, but essential process," says the company's transport manager Peter Taylor.
