• Proposed turning-circle requirements for 16.5m artics will increase road wear by 25%, warns the Institute of Road Transport Engineers. The IRTE says the proposed radii — designed to reduce the risk of trailer wheels clipping kerbs when going round tight corners — will upset vehicles' weight distribution, encouraging the use of two-axled tractors which cause more damage.
