Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

OVER the three days of clear frosty weather during our first test the 220-30 showed that it had power and pace to spare; however, early morning starts in freezing temperatures produced extraordinary palls of acrid smoke. On the severest gradients it emitted abnormal amounts too.

Soon after completion of the test Iveco's engineers found the fuel injection pump and an injector incorrectly set up. With the FI equipment correctly adjusted Iveco asked for a retest. CM agreed in the interest of obtaining representative and comparable results.

Unfortunately, the retest was affected by blustery winds and busier roads on the northern leg. Tail winds that developed from the Borders down also failed to help.

As a result it not only failed to achieve the 401it/100krn (7mpgplus) that Iveco claimed the machine was capable of, but its fuel return was 45.Slit/100ktn (6.2mpg) at an average speed of 671c.m/h (41.59mph). This is six per cent down on the original results, which are published in this roadtest report.
