ABUS with many unusual features has been built for Ferodo, Ltd. Charles H, Roe, Ltd., constructed the body on a Daimler chassis and the vehicle, which at present has braking by air pressure with diaphragm actuation, is to be employed in brake-facing research. The object is to obtain pilot results from public service vehicle experiniental materials on durability, fade, heat-spotting, the co-efficient . of friction and scoring before new products are allocated for primary operational tests.
The chassis employed is the double-decker Model CV06, with Gardner engine and fluid transmission, but a single-deck body is fitted. Provision has been made for the carriage on special racks of cast-iron ballast weights that will reproduce double-decker weight-transference conditions. With this arrangement, testing will not be hampered by low bridges which may be encountered in the course of tours planned to encompass a variety of service conditions.
instruments Include recording and indicating decelerorneters, recording speedometers, and brakeapplication counters. Thermo-couples, lead-sulphide surface-temperature-recording pyrqmeters and temperature-recording paints will be employed. Trap doors have been provided in the floors to facilitate frequent jacking for the inspection of the drams.
