GREEMENTS between the Road Haulage Executive and four acquired haulage undertakings for payment of compensation totalling £129,715 were confirmed last week by the Transport Arbitration Tribunal. UTNDER an award made by the 1,-) Industrial Disputes Tribunal, over 400,000 women employed in the engineering industry have received pay increases back-dated to November 23, 1951. Those aged 18 and over have gained another 10s. Id. for a 44-hour week. Juniors' advances are proportionate.

Women's time rates now become £4 5s. id. per week at the age of 21; DI 3s. ld. at 20; £4 Is. Id. at 19; and £3 19s, Id. at 18. The unions had pressed for an Its, increase, which men employed in engineering had been granted, but the Tribunal's award is higher than the employers' offer.
