THE valuable work carried out by the Associated North Staffordshire Motorbus 'Proprietors, Ltd., in coordinating the local services, was outlined at the annual dinner of that Association, at Haialey. Mr. W. H. Abberley„ solicitor to the Association, said that, when, in 1931, the Road Traffic Act came into operation, there were 3040 independent operators, who ran about 50 per cent. of the services in the district, and the Psotterics Motor Traction Co., Ltd., which dealt with the remainder of the traffic.
In accordance with the wishes of the Traffic Commissioners, the Association 518 evolved a co-ordination scheme, which has proved to be successful and which was introduced without any great friction. Had the Association not been in existence, said Mr. Abberley, it was probable that operators would have had to accept a co-ordination scheme framed by the Commissioners.
Mr. J. G. Leese, the president, occupied the chair, and the attendance included Mr. A. Beech, chairman, Mr. W. Tilstone, vice-chairman, and Mr. A. Firth, secretary.
