ONCE AGAIN, I'm very concerned at the portrayal of agency drivers as being unsafe and uncontrollable (0117 November).

I've already responded to previous comments on this subject and stated I would welcome the introduction of a code of practice and the regulation of driving agencies.

It seems to me that whenever agency drivers are mentioned in the press ifs always in a negative context —they are never portrayed as the unsung heroes many of them are. By the nature of their job, they are regularly asked to perform urgent tasks and often at short notice.

Don't forget that a large number of agency drivers aren't temporary, but prefer the flexibility and variety of work offered to them by their employers.

FleetMaster has, since its foundation in 2001, endeavoured to employ drivers of the highest quality and implemented a number of initiatives to support this aim.As a member of a number of professional bodies such as AIRSO, RoSPA, and the RHA, I would welcome the opportunity of working with both Commercial Motor and the RHA in developing a code of practice.
