A Cardiff disciplinary inquiry was told that 11 immediate prohibitions had been imposed on Price's vehicles, including five for significant maintenance failures, with six delayed prohibitions.

On seven occasions variation notices were issued when vehicles were taken for clearance. The faults ranged from damaged tyres and cracked wheels to chronic oil leaks, loose wheelnuts and to chafed brake hoses. Drivers defect report books could not be produced and the inspection records were incomplete. There had been little or no maintenance.

For Price, Jeff Evans said that five of the seven vehicles in possession had passed the annual test since September and one was due to go for test the following Monday There were no excuses. Efforts had been made in the past month to put the situation right.

Price told the LA that he had not been around to look at things as he should. There were plenty of funds; it had been a case of weak leadership. Suspending the licence, Mervyn Pugh said all the vehicles should be retested.
