STRONG INTEREST in the Ebro vehicles displayed at the recent NEC Motor Show, has prompted UK importer Nissan Ebro to seek new dealers for its range of Spanish-built light trucks and vans.
The new dealerships are being sought in Scotland, NorthWest England and some London and Home Counties areas.
According to Nissan Ebro director David Richards: "The interest in our products shown by visitors to the Motor Show stand makes it plain that we should look for wider coverage.
"We have just over 30 dealers — about halfway to our target for a national network." Ebro has a current market share of 1.1 per cent in the 3.5 to 7.5 tonne sector.
Ebro's current UK range is built at the Nissan-owned Motor-lberica plant and includes the Perkins-powered L60 six tonne-gvw chassis cab, and L75 7.5-tonne-gvw chassis cab, crew cab and integral van.
All 7.5-tonne models have a turbocharged version of the standard, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder Perkins engine, and a five-speed Turner synchromesh gearbox is fitted throughout the range.
Plans are already underway to expand Ebro's UK range into the light van sector. A lefthand-drive 2.75-tonne-gvw panel van with forward-control and affording a one-ton payload — the Ebro JY275 — was previewed on Ebro's stand at the Motor Show equipped with a four-cylinder Nissan diesel engine.
Right-hand-drive models are expected to become available in the UK in March 1985, with chassis-cab variants following later on along with a two-litre Nissan petrol engine option.
