COMPUTER company Hoskyns has introduced what it describes as the first fully-integrated distribution computer system.
Hoskyns' Distribution Management Control System comprise eight modules, each covering part of the distribution process.
The company admits that other computer houses have been able to offer some of these facilities, but says it is the first to provide the complete range, hence the fully-integrated claim.
The modules cover fleet management, fleet accounting, stocks control, purchasing/ goods receiving, financial control and sales order processing. The two newest ones just added are warehouse management (computer control of stock location and rotation) and despatch (computer-aided loadplanning).
Hoskyns plans to add a route scheduling module within the next few months. Rather than develop its own system, the company is buying-in a scheduling programme already on the market.
Customers can buy all or any of the modules and Londonbased Hoskyns says that the system is targetted at the largest fleets, particularly those in the own-account sector like the multiple retailers. Some of the modules have been available for a long time and among the users are Rank Xerox, BRS and Wincanton.
