FIVE DEFENDANTS charged in connection with the theft of containers from Felixstowe have been committed by magistrates for trial at Crown Court.

At Felixstowe magistrates court, three Essex men were granted bail and legal aid in connection with the alleged theft of a container and its load of tea bags, worth £73,000.

They were Leslie James Humphrey, of Basildon; Louis Leonard Hartgen, of Brentwood; and Moss Lazarus, Brentwood.

In another case two men are charged with the theft of a container and its load of corned beef worth £32,000.

Ronald Konway, of Beacontree Avenue, London E17, and James Smith, of Ilford, were both remanded on conditional bail.
