RENWICK FREIGHT blames the engineering strike and a drop in manufacturing for its continued losses this year.
The losses — said to exceed £100,000 in the six months to September 29, 1979 almost all took place in the second half of the trading period.
A Renwick Group spokesman told CM that the freight division losses were directly attributable to a sharp downturn in national manufacturing and the engineering dispute.
But Renwick Freight managing director George Metcalfe added that efforts are being made to reorganise trading so that peaks and troughs are eliminated.
Such measures as described in CM September 7 will be used to make freight" a profitable activity.
