FOURTEEN recall campaigns affected 30,245 goods vehicles last summer, according to the Department of Transport.
In the first quarterly digest of campaigns to be released since the Government launched its Code of Practice on July 10 (see CM July 13), British and imported vehicles are listed.
The faults ranged from chassis problems on nine Dodge C3084 8x4 tippers to a wiring defect on 15,223 1978 model Ford Transits with OHC petrol engines.
In all cases, registered owners have been advised through the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre's records; and where letters sent by ordinary mail have produced no response, reminders have been sent by registered post.
DTp believes that the neNN Code has been a success so far with the number of recal campaigns notified to having risen from a previou: quarterly average of 16 to 2: for all vehicles.
"Experience so far suggest: a welcome readiness b: manufacturers to co-operatt in applying the Code, but it i too early to draw general con elusions on the extent and na ture of safety related defects ii new vehicles or long-terr trends."
