TWO NATIONALISED bus operators have adapted older Leyland single-deckers to play supporting roles in their fleets.
Eastern National has rebuilt a 52-seater Leyland National as a driver tuition bus based at its Chelmsford depot. It is used to school trainees in the characteristics of a modern generation vehicle.
A company spokesman told CM that it is being used for this purpose as its five-year bus grant period has expired, but it is still licensed as a public service vehicle if it should be needed as such.
Scottish Bus Group public relations subsidiary Travel Press and Publicity has had a former Eastern Scottish Leyland Leopard converted into a mobile display unit to publicise the group's activities throughout Scotland.
It is equipped with audio-visual displays and, like the Eastern National vehicle, is finished in a blue and white livery.
