FEAR of confusion of letters has forced the Department of Transport to drop plans to issue U-suffixed vehicle registrations from August 1 next year. Discussions with police and motor trade representatives have led the DTp to decide instead to jump from T to V suffixes as Us and Vs may have been confused.
Only the letters W, X, and Y have still to be issued, but DTp has still to finalise its plans for vehicle registration marks after 1983.
