Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YOUR statement (The Commercial Motor, December. 1) that hauliers have sought increases of 171 per cent. in a year could be misleading. It would be more appropriate to say that these increases cover a total of 44 years.

The 10 per cent. that was recommended by the Rates Committee to take effect at the beginning of November, 1960, was the first such recommendation since May, 1957. Since that date four increases in road haulage wages have been agreed in addition to many other rises in costs, some of them imposed by the Government.
