SOMERSET Education Committee proposes to run its own school buses next year because of the increasing difficulties and cost of hiring. This was decided at a meeting of the committee last week when it was stated that there were 120 contracts for cars and 41 for coaches, and in each case only one tender was received.
The committee eventually recommended the County Council to purchase three buses and a scooter, the last to be used by the main driver, who is normally employed at the central kitchen, for travelling to and from the coach garage.
