THE main features of the Ro!
Smithfield Show held at Earls Cor this week were naturally livestock a purely farming machinery. There we however, a number of interesting exhib from the point of view of the vehir engineer.
Chief of these was a tractor—the 9 Autodrive — shown by David Tirol Tractors, Ltd., employing fully automa transmission. This is partly hydrau although mainly mechanical and wh developed initially for installation in far tractors, it has potential application commercial and passenger vehicl, Interesting transmission developmer were also shown by The Plessey Cr Ltd., and Dowty Hydraulic Units, LI Both showed hydrostatic transmissior Plessey included an axle unit said to I suitable for small vehicles and Dow showed their Dowrnatic unit.
The Rover Co., Ltd., The Austin Mot Co., Ltd., and Mercedes-Benz (Ore Britain), Ltd., showed examples of ti Land-Rover, Austin Gipsy and Unimr respectively, equipped for a variety agricultural purposes such as or< spraying and lime spreading. • Loading equipment with commerci vehicle applications was to be seen ( the stands of Lodematic, Ltd., svl exhibited a range of their lorry loader and Colchester Tillage, Ltd., who show( the Tico hydraulic crane which is suitab for mounting on tractors and commerci vehicles.
