built for service with trailers up to a maximum gross train weight of 29 tons, has been introduced by Mercedes-Benz. It is powered by a six-cylindered 8.276-litre precombustion-chamber engine, which, despite notmal aspiration, is claimed to have an output of 143 b.b.p. at 2,100 r.p.m. when minus all auxiliaries. The transmission employs a six-speed constantmesh gearbox, with ratios of 8.25, 5.38, 3.68, 1.52 and Ito 1, giving a Maximum speed of 44 m.p.h.

The new chassis is available in wheelbase lengths of 1$ ft. and 17 ft. I in. for body lengths of 16 ft. 4 ins. and 19 ft. 8 ins. A spare wheel (11.00-20-ire tyse .equipment is used) is carried between the body and frame immediately behind the cab.

In chassis form, the Mercedes-Benz L6600, as it known, weighs 41. tons

Compressed-air braking equipment is employed, a single-cylindered compressor being mounted on the engine and driven through a belt and pulleys from the crankshaft.

The cab is fully lined to reduce noise, and a double bulkhead Panel is

fitted. A built-in cab-heating system makes use of the fan draught through an exhaust muffle. All wiring is carried

in conduits; The rear-axle final-drive gear is lubricated by a force-feed system employing a-gear-type pump.
