Leyland and Mercedes-Benz trucks. It bought its first Scania in 1985, and the fleet is now 100% made up of lorries from the Swedish marque, mostly purchased new from local dealer Keltruck. It operates 50 trucks and 10 vans.
According to Sanderson, Scanias tend to be more expensive than competitors, but he says: "They are excellent trucks, reliable, and the drivers like them." He adds: "They are specification-heavy and great for the drivers who spend a lot of time in them. We are very happy with them; you can always sell a Scania."
Most of the fleet is equipped with digital tachographs and Sanderson says the company always buys Michelin tyres "because it is a very good and safe tyre".
Smart Witness forward-facing cameras are also fitted to every vehicle. "The cameras are very good, they have saved us a fortune on insurance claims," Sanderson explains. "For the drivers it has improved their driving, and we use the technology in every insurance claim."
Sanderson says the firm went to a lot of effort before the introduction of the London Low Emission Zone scheme and bought retrofitting equipment to make 12 vehicles compliant.
