Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Seddon Atkinson is to follow the example of its rivals ERF and Foden by offering the 14-litre Cummins Super E410 engine in its Strato heavy tractor range from September.

The charge-cooled E410 straight-six diesel has a net installed rating of 288kW (386hp) in the Strato and a peak torque of 1,715Nm (1,2651bft) at 1,20Orpm.

A number of E410 chassis are already going down the production line at Oldham, says Seddon, which will be pitching the E410 as a slightly more torquier and higher cubic capacity alternative to the 12-litre Perkins Tx400, which will also be offered in the Strato before the end of the year (CM 25-31 July).

Following the adoption of the E410 Seddon will be phasing out the E365 Cummins currently offered in the Strato: "As soon as the 410 is on the price list the E365 will be dropped... the E410 will be replacing the E365," it says.

The Strato premium and Strato TC tractors can both be fitted with the E410, which will be coupled to the Eaton Twin Splitter gearbox.

0 Cummins is poised to kick off a new dealer incentive scheme. The Truck Power '91 promotion will involve Seddon, ERF and Foden truck distributors and is likely to work along similar lines to previous schemes offered by the engine maker.

It is believed that Truck Power '91 is designed to encourage sales of the E410 and E465 14-litre engines, in both dealer demonstrators and operators' vehicles.

The promotion is intended to counter the growing impact of Perkins on Cummins' sales volumes. Up to the end of June Cummins held a 19.1% share of the UK heavy truck engine market above 29 tonnes, compared with 20.8% during the same period last year.

Above 3.5 tonnes, however, its overall share is 22.7% — up from 21.8% in 1990.
