Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Even the 1,000 additional buses the Ceylon Transport Board needs to provide a satisfactory service to its commuters will not be the final answer, stated the Minister for Nationalized Services, Mr. V. A. Sugathadasa, last month. Although CTB had about 4,300 buses, many of them were old and there were about 500 under repair every day, he said.

Mr. Sugathaciasa also stated that the CTB will not go in for reconditioned LTB doubledeckers. Ceylon has been a steady customer for ex-London Transport AEC RT and Leyland RTL and RTW double-deckers in the past.

Meanwhile CTB, which has been in trouble for many years, has received financial aid from India, which will pay for 300 new buses. It is standardizing on Tata Benz and Ashok Leyland buses, reports our correspondent in Ceylon.
