• A one-legged driver has won his Class 1 HGV driving licence only eight months after passing his Class 2 test ( CM22-28 Oct 1998). Marc McFarlane of Guildford concluded his four-day training course at Driver Hire with a first-time pass on 26 March. The tractor was totally standard and the tester made no allowance for McFarlane's disability.
This achievement continues McFarlane's remarkable recovery from a car accident 11 years ago: doctors finally had to amputate a login 1995.
After the accident medical experts told McFarlane he would never walk again; since then he has repeatedly confounded doctors and employers alike.
"I found this training harder than my Class 2 which I passed last July," says McFarlane. "I am very pleased and looking forward to the future."
