• New National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) in six vehicle repair disciplines are to be offered by City and Guilds. Two of the qualifications are at Level 2 and four at Level 3.
Unlike many other qualifications, NVQs do not necessarily require formal training away from the workplace. Candidates are assessed by observation at work and by keeping records of vehicles repaired, log books, references and certificates.
The first six NVQs are: (Level 2) vehicle body fitting; vehicle mechanical and electronic systems, unit replacement: (Level 3) vehicle body repair; three courses on vehicle mechanical and electronic systems, maintenance and repair (light vehicles, heavy vehicles and motor cycles).
