SCAMMELL Trailers, which controls 10 per cent of the British market, has been taken over by York Trailers.
York has paid a reported £693,000 for the ailing Leyland Special Products subsidiary.
A spokesman for York said that it needed Scammell to gain increased production facilities.
Scammell could be turned into a profitable undertaking through the infusion of York's product development and York's wider range of equipment.
York intends to take its new acquisition into the export field.
Some 50 per cent of York's total volume goes for export and given the extra capacity the firm intend to increase this figure.
