, The opening of the first completed section of Rootes, Ltd.'s splendid new showrooms at Maidstone this week provided an opportunity for an impressive display of Commer commercial chassis and Austin light vans. In addition, demonstrations of the Karrier-Carrimore dual-purpose decontaminating unit (as described in our issue dated March 11), attracted a great deal of interest.

When finally completed, the Maidstone depot, it is claimed, will be the most comprehensive and best equipped of its kind in south-east England, and commercial-vehicle owners will have the benefit of up-to-date service facilities, Royal Charter for I.A.E.

Our congratulations to the Institution of Automobile Engineers at being granted a Royal Charter, This welldeserved recognition indicates the great progress which has been made by the Institution since it was established in 1906.
