INCENSED hauliers on the Road Ilaulage Association's national council last week demanded an inquiry into what they claim is unfair trading by oil companies and director general Freddie Plaskett has asked the Office of Fair Trading to take such action as it may consider necessary, the RHA said this week.
The move follows last month's 1.5 pence rise in the schedule price of commercial derv, started by Esso but implemented by the other major suppliers within two days.
The RHA hauliers say that the oil companies failed to give any valid, understandable and sensible reason for the increase.
They believe the oil companies are exploiting bulk dery users as a captive market because they are unable to raise petrol prices. That does not constitute fair trading, say the hauliers.
