International Harvester, who own Seddon Atkinson, claim to have reduced their consumption of energy worldwide by 15 per cent. Thanks to OPEC, they are now going to enjoy extra benefits from having formed a subsidiary to drill more than 20 producing natural-gas wells to supply power to their American factories in cases of shortages or curtailments.
Frank Whalley, Seddon Atkinson's publicity manager, tells me they are undecided whether to drill for gas in Oldham or Preston but I understand that the possibility of a direct pipeline from the House of Commons is not ruled out.
