REGIONAL chief engineer for the South East region of the National Bus Company, Brian Hancock, has moved to become NBC's group engineer.

Mr Hancock joined the bus industry in 1945 and among his past appointments are chief engineer at West Yorkshire Road Car and Western National. He became chief engineer for NBC's Southern Region in 1974 and took up the same position for the South East region in September 1977.

National Bus Company subsidiary Lincolnshire Road Car Company has named Brian Harper as its new chief engineer. Mr Harper is currently head of Midland Red's main works in Birmingham. He came to Midland Red in 1974 when his own family's bus company, Harper Brothers was taken over. He was area engineer (East) until 1977 when he became assistant engineer (works).

York Trailer Company has promoted Sam Jennings to regional sales manager for the North East. Mr Jennings was previously a sales representative working from the Warrington branch. Before that he was a representative with Firestone.

Suzanne Hennis has joined North Western British Road Services as training officer. She is a member of the Institute of Training Officers and is based at the North Western BRS head office in Manchester.

Atkinson's of Clitheroe, manufacturer of spreaders, rollers and gritters has appointed a new technical manager. He is Jeffrey Cowling who has previous experience with Rolls Royce. He is responsible for design, development, inspection and quality control of the Atkinson range. Assistant planning manager of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company Frank Major, has been elected chairman of the Merseyside and District section of the Chartered Institute of Transport. He is a past manager of the Royal Seaforth Container Terminal.

International freight forwarder Thomas Meadows is having an internal reshuffle of senior management staff.

The first change is in the company's overseas positions, with general manager of the sales liasion office in Johannesburg, David Johnson, becoming Meadows' group representative in Los Angeles. Mr Johnson has previously worked at the London Airport, Glasgow, Leicester and Southampton offices before going to South Africa.

Replacing Mr Johnson in South Africa is Colin Wood, currently East Anglian district manager based at Ipswich. He joined Thomas Meadows 16 years ago originally at the Northampton office. He has since held a number of positions, including that of operations manager in Northampton and sales representative in New York.

Stefan Sheriden will be succeeding Mr Wood in Ipswich as East Anglian district manager. Mr Sheriden is the company's European marketing manager at present and he joined Meadows in 1972 after working for other freight fOrwarders in Paris, Vienna and Oslo.

Hydraulic systems manufacturer Edbor has appointed two staff members to become directors of the company. General works manager Geoffrey Lockyer becomes production director while manufacturing manager David Taylor is manufacturing director. Both men are members of the Institute of Production Engineers and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
