Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The shortage of hgv-licensed drivers has led National Carriers Ltd to intensify its replacement of articulated c.

vehicles with rigids.

The company announced this week that it was spending Elm on under-3-tonsunladen rigid boxvans to replace lightweight attics. The vehicles will be boxvans of between 700 and 750 cu ft capacity.

Chassis-cabs will be Bedford KCs, Commer KC 40s, Leyland Terriers and some Fords. An NCL spokesman told CM this week that under normal circumstances they would not have ordered such a mixed bag, but the hgv driver shortage had made replacement urgent and NCL was taking what was most readily available.

The replacement programme is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
