• Poyaud, the French diesel manufacturer, is to set up a diesel assembly — and later a full manufacturing — plant in Swansea. Already inquiries for generating sets and marine engines worth £4m have been made in five months; and talks are being held with four commercial vehicle firms interested in fitting 190 hp to 440 hp diesels.
M Bernard Babot, joint managing director of Anglo French Diesel Engineering, a marketing company set up by Poyaud in partnership with CSL Electric of Swansea, said that within four years 600 or 700 employees would be needed.
Road contract
Work is to begin soon on the Queens Drive, Liverpool, to Tarbock section of M62 to take 27 months to complete. Contractor: Sir Alfred McAlpine and Son Ltd-Leonard Fairclough Ltd Consortium.
