A NEW Rutland, designed for export.
will be -shown at Earls Court by Motor Traction, Ltd., Rutland Works, Vulcan Way, New Addington, Surrey. It is a six-stiheeler of the bonneted type for gross loads of up to 48,000 lb.
Power is supplied by a Leyland 11.1litre oil engine developing 150 b.h.p. at 2,000 r.p.m., the maximum torque being 450 lb.-ft. at 1,100 r.p.m. In unit with the engine is a five-speed gearbox having ratios of 7.7, 5, 3.12, 1.74 and 1 to 1 and an 8.9 to 1 reverse:
This assembly has a flexible mounting at the front and is supported at the rear by a banjo cross-member rigidly attached to the frame side members. There is also an auxiliary box having a
ratio of 1.328 to I. which can be arranged as either a step-up or -stepdown unit.
Both the bogie axles are driven: they have .the overhead-worm gearing of 8+-in. centres, the ratio being 7.25 to 1. The front semi-elliptic springs of 45-in. centres are 3+-in, wide, whilst those at the rear have 54-in, centres and are 5 in. wide. The rear springs are secured at their centres to a chair mounted on trunnion bearings, the outer ends being in swivelling trunnions. Maximum articulation is 8 in.
The air-operated brakes have 16'}-in.diameter drums, the shoes at the front having 4-in.-wide facings and those at the rear 6-in.-wide facings.
