RHA lambasts proposals to raise Humber Bridge tolls

THE ROAD HAULAGE Association (RHA) has criticised proposals to increase tolls for vehicles using the Humber Bridge.

In its application to the Department for Transport (Dip, the Humber Bridge Board says it wants to increase charges for all six vehicle categories from April 2011. The plans will face a public inquiry in March next year.

RHA head of communications Kate Gibbs says: This proposal will increase the price of an Hats return journey by up to £4, and that is only if a vehicle is using the bridge once a day. "Many of our members use this key route several times a day as a more efficient means of delivering their goods; both in fuel used and time. Any increase in toll charges will totally negate any cost saving," she explains.

Andrew Lunn, MD at AR Lunn Transport, based in Hull, Humberside, says: "We are obviously not very happy with this news.

"The Humber Bridge is a necessity to allow economic development and progress in a region that has been hit hard by the global downturn."
