• Southampton haulier Kingswood Transport plans to recruit up to 40 employed and dedicated sub-contractor drivers for work throughout the UK and in France to cope with an anticipated 20% surge in work over the next 12 months.
Preference will be given to drivers with experience of international work, and contractors with Volvo FL10s, to haul the company's fleet of 64 liveried trailers.
As well as general haulage work Kingswood handles palletised petrochemical products and a range of construction materials.
The £4m-turnover company says it is confident of expanding its existing business by 20% following a .035,000 cash injection by new chief executive Terry Vincent and investment capital group 3i.
The move will allow the company to open a second office in Marseilles to develop business in Northern Italy, Spain and the South of France.
The extra cash is also being used to take on a financial controller and non-executive director to give former owner Les Flack more time to develop his European contacts.
The company, which has a fleet of 40 vehicles, currently , sub-contracts two-thirds of its work.
Following the buy-in Vincent has an equal shareholding with Flack. The balance is held by 3i and operations director AnneMarie Del Valle .
