• Tyneside truck rental specialist Barlow has spent more than £2 million on new vehicles for general haulage work as the area's economy climbs out of recession: the 7.5-tonne market is particularly buoyant.
Eighteen new EuroTech artics and 36 Iveco Ford 7.5-tonners will boost the firm's fleet to 409.
Managing director Ken Barlow says: "Business is really on fire, people seem to be regaining confidence and they are hiring more trucks for longer periods.
"The 7.5-tonne market is very strong," he adds, "and my customers are delivering goods for manufacturers, so if they are hiring more trucks then there must be an upturn in manufacturing and sales"
