expired vehicles will be interested in a method devised by the Rootes Group service station at Maidstone to facilitate this. This concern's vans, which are sold after 10,000 miles service, have sign-writing applied on panels of self-adhesive plastics sheeting manufactured by Fablon, Ltd., 49 Park Lane, London, W.I.

The panels can be written in advance so that application of sign-writing to a new van is quickly done and, when • the vehicles are sold, it is necessary only to strip off the plastics panels and polish the underlying paintwork.

The sign-writing for this Commer van is applied on self-adhesive plastics sheets. Thus, it can be removed easily.

No Deposit AN additive for the water circulated in water-wash spray booths prevents the accumulation of lime deposits on the washed surface. It is particularly valuable where very hard water is used. The compound is manufactured by Aerostyle, Ltd., Sunbeam Road, London, N.W.10, and costs is. 6d. per lb. when purchased in 56-1b. drums. From 6-8 lb. of the additive is mixed with each 100 gal. of water, Plastics Pipes DOLYTHENE tubing capable of con veying liquids or air at pressures up to 100 p.s.i, is offered by Hazelock, Ltd., Haddenham, Bucks, complete with specially developed polythene and metal connectors and end •fittings. The pipe connectors, named Tubelock, permit joints to be made manually without the use of tools. Like the tubing, these components are light whilst being rustand frost-proof., Lightweight Cutter AN oxy-acetylene blowpipe for hand cutting, known as the Firefly, was introduced by British Oxygen Gases, Ltd., St. James's, London, S.W.1, at the Commercial Motor Show. The torch, which weighs only 12 oz., will cut steel up to 11in. thick and is resistant to backfires.

A new water-cooled Argonare spotwelding torch was also exhibited. This device permits welds to be made by semi-skilled labour with access to one side of the material only.

Arduous Lubrication

TEMPERATURES from 32F. to I 300°F. can be withstood by lithiumbased all-purpose E.P. grease available from Bardahl Products, Ltd., 39 Craven Road, London, W.2, The grease contains a non-corrosive extreme-pressure additive and is recommended for all types of equipment where conventional lubricants fail because of excessive loads, heal or pressure. It can be used for general chassis lubrication and is offered in 11 lb. or 22 lb. tins at 10s. per lb.

Protective Cleaner ACLEANSING paste which is stated to give protection against corrosion to the metal on which it is used has been introduced by Romac Industries, Ltd., The Hyde, Hendon, London, N.W.9, under the name Formula 51, The compound. which is sold in tubes at 3s. each, is primarily intended for cleaning chromium but can be used also on most metals in addition to plastics and paintwork.

Small Exhauster THE A350-type exhauster for vacuum 1 braking systems now being produced by Clayton •Dewandre Co., Ltd., Lincoln, weighs only 12 lb. and is more compact

than previous models. It is a normal rotary type with an eccentric rotor and four fibre blades.

The exhauster will run at up to 3,000 r.p.m. and has a normal operating speed of 2,500 r.p.m. At the lower speed it will produce 21 in. of vacuum in a 1.5cu-ft. reservoir in under 10 seconds.

High-powered Wipers WHAT is thought to be the most powerful electric wiper motor fitted as standard to any British vehicle, is employed to drive the 17-in.-long wiper blades of the new Bedford TK forwardcontrol range. The motor was developed by the AC-Delco Division of General Motors, Ltd., Dunstable, Beds, and incorporates Iwo-stage reduction mechanism to increase the overall efficiency of the gearbox.

A two-start worm is the primary reduction gear whilst straight spur gears make up the secondary train. The complete assembly reduces the motor speed of 3,000 r.p.m: to 60 r.p.m. at the output shaft.

Summer Inhibition A STRONG case for the use of corro sion inhibitors.: in cooling systems, even when anti-freeze 'compound is not: present, is contained in a booklet available free from W. J. Bush and Co., Ltd.. Ash Grove, London, E.8. Bush manufacture Sobenite la mixture of sodium benzoate and sodium nitrate) which is probably the most widely used type of anti-freeze inhibitor. This material can be mixed easily with plain water in addition to anti-freeze mixtures and instructions are given for its incorporation in both base liquids.

ANEW high-pressure melamine laminate manufactured by Fablon. Ltd., 49 Park Lane, London, W.1, is now available in 11 grained-wood finishes and 19 plain colours in addition to an extensive range of patterned effects. It can have a matt or glossy finish, is normally fe in. thick and is supplied in standard sheets measuring 9 ft. by '4 ft. Sheets 10 ft, by 4 ft. or 8 ft. by 4 ft., and of different thicknesses, will be available to special order. The material is known as Fablonite and its retail price is from 3s. 9d. per sq. ft. n13
