Car QOME details of the part played by the Austin 10 hire car in the export drive have recently come to light. Numbers of this type of vehicle have been exported in recent months, and a new version, using the Austin 1,200 c.c. engine, is under construction for service in cities where congestion reduces high-speed requirements to a minimum.

Providing comfortable accommodation for four passengers, the car is based on an Austin chassis having box-section side and crossmembers. The engine normally fitted is the Austin 2,199 cc, unit, producing 67 b.b.p. at 3,500 r.p.m. Late production models for use in London, the provinces and abroad, have a smaller induction manifold and Zenith carburetter. Fuel consumption is thus reduced to a rate of about 26 m.p.g. and the maximumspeed potentialities correspondingly curbed.

The roomy body, built by Carbodies, Ltd., is of stressed-steel construction. There are four wide doors and the front seat is separated from the rear of the body by a glass division. At the rear are a seat 3 ft. 6 ins, wide and two small. folding seats, each 1 ft 6 ins. wide. A comprehensive range of equipment is fitted.
