. Birmingham, having been very successful with their light car models, have now introduced a two-seater taxicab which is mounted on a similar chassis to that incorporated in their touring

vehicles. The taxi is designed be be run at a lower rate than that charged in the case of larger and heavier vehicles and accommodates two people and their luggage in addition to the driver. A door is fitted on each side of the passengers' compartment, whilst a door on the off side allows the driver to reach his seat, the other side being open and forming a platform for luggage. A strap prevents the luggage from fouling the driver or his controls and a tool box is fitted on the running boards and flush with the floorboards so as to form an additional support. The windows are raised and lowered by straps in the usual way, arid the interior is trimmed in leather cloth, the woodwork being ma hoganyfinished. •

The specification of the chassis iu. eludes a four-cylinder engine rated at 10.8 .h.p. with a bore and stroke of 66 mm. and 90 mm. respectively. The valves are driven by an overhead camshaft and a patent system of automatic lubrication is employed throughout the unit. The camshaft, magneto and dynamo are all driven by spiral gears, the magneto and dynamo being located most accessibly at the upper end of the vertical shaft. A four-speed gearbox built in a. unit with the engine is used, whilst the final drive to the spiral' bevel axle, which is equipped with a full differential of sturdy construction, is by

enclosed propeller shaft. •
