Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TNT EXPRESS has launched an apprenticeship scheme for aspiring LGV drivers to combat the problem of an ageing driving workforce in road transport.

The 12-month programme, developed in conjunction with Leeds City College, is tailored specifically for drivers working in the parcels sector. It was launched in response to the industry's lack of young blood, particularly drivers under 25.

Apprentices will be taught customer service skills and technical knowledge such as how to load and unload vehicles; health, safety and environmental issues; route planning; customer care; safe and fuelefficient driving; preparing the vehicle for loading; and what paperwork needs to be completed.

In addition, they will be given the opportunity to take their Category C driving test halfway through the programme, and have the chance to gain experience driving vans and 7.5-tonners.

The scheme got under way with eight apprentices taken on at the operator's various UK sites. Over a 12-month period, they will receive more than 200 guided learning hours, made up of a mixture of on-the-job and classroom-based tuition. This will also be supported by some homework. TNT Express UK and Ireland MD Alistair Cochrane said: "We are committed to investing in talented people at all levels. We are tremendously proud of our apprenticeship schemes and TNT Express reaps the benefits of our enthusiastic and

skilled graduates every day."

David Fell, deputy principal (external relationships and business development) at Leeds City College, believes the scheme will improve young peoples' career prospects.
