Marshall Daf puts £140,000 into new value-for-money ATF lane

By Kevin Swallow

CAMBRIDGE-BASED Marshall Daf has opened an authorised testing facility (ATF) to help it become a one-stop-shop for operators.

The company spent £140,000 on the new lane, which is open on Tuesdays.

Service manager John Hogan said: "The dealership invested in the ATF so that it can care for our customers' needs and enhance value for money."

The firm is hoping to open the facility more frequently. "The utilisation of the lane is 100%, but efficiency enables additional axles to be squeezed in. We have applied for two days from January 2014 and would like to increase that month on month," he said.

There are how many ATFs?

Including Marshall Daf, there are now 369 ATFs in operation since the scheme was launched in 2010.

Marshall Daf operates a two-shift workshop at its Newmarket Road site, carrying out MoT preparation as well as MoT, calibration of tachographs and road speed limiters. The company is part of the Marshall

Motor Group, one of the largest privately owned dealer groups in the UK. Since the beginning of 2009, the group has added 33 branches to its portfolio and now operates 70 franchised dealerships representing 24 manufacturer brands, with an annual turnover of £1bn and employing more than 2,500 people.

Last month CM spoke to Alex Lee, the newly appointed used truck sales manager (CM19 September), who was given the challenge to develop a thriving second-hand business. He said: "I intend to have 12 to 15 used trucks on show at any one time, and I'll be looking to stock nothing older than 08-registered."
