JUST DAYS after Chinese conglomerate TANA Group cemented its purchase of TIP Trailer Services, the rental company revealed it has bought the old Vosa test station at Simonswood, Kirby.

Karl Davies, TIP services and marketing director (below), said the £1.7m deal for the six-acre site will be for third-party servicing and maintenance work, damage repair, as well as localised work for existing customers.

"The site will have two-paint booths for trailers and vehicles, a shot blasting facility, an authorised testing facility [ATF], as well as a 10-bay workshop," he said, adding that the site will complement the existing TIP network rather than take work away from it.

TIP also plans to run a small rental operation from the site with primarily skeletal trailers to capitalise on the deep sea port expansion. "We saw the site as a great opportunity for growth in the business," he explained. The company will take on

28 people to work at the site, with the workshop offering approximately 865 service hours per week. The site will open on 1 January 2014.

Davies also revealed that the company has moved its Leeds TIP Trailer Services depot from Whitehall Road Industrial Estate to join the TIP Tankers site on Pontefract Road in Knottingley, which will make it more accessible for customers.

At Pontefract Road, TIP will invest £500,000 in building a new three-bay workshop for the trailer rental business and adding an ATE Work will be completed by June 2014.
