An east London
lorry driver caught driving without insurance and while disqualified has been ordered to do 200 hours of community service and pay 1631 costs. Ian
Aldred. of Walthamstow, pleaded guilty to the offences before !larking magistrates having previously denied the offences.
Anthony Ostrin, prosecut
ing for the Vehicle Inspectorate, told the court
that a 7,5-tonner loaded with cartons and driven by Aldred had been stopped in a roadside check at Dagenham. It was discovered that Aldred was a disqualified driver, but when he was Initially interviewed by a traffic examkier
he had denied knowing that he had been disqualified.
Appearing for Aldred, Rebecca Fairburn said he had been disqualified in his absence. If he had been aware of his disqualification he would not have driven the vehicle.
