Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The RHA has complained that not many hauliers have taken up BS5750. From what I understand, BS5750 is about efficiency.

First there is the restriction on permitted drivers' hours. Second, on arrival at loading or offloading points, even if you're pre-booked, you hear those famous words "you'll have to wait, driver", especially at the container docks.

After leaving the loading point we get tangled up with local or motorway traffic which today is heavy, except at about 02:00hrs.

Hauliers rely on third parties for loading, offloading and traffic. The majority of drivers want to do their job as best and efficiently as they can in the hours allowed.

The main problem is loading or offloading. At loading we have all the problems of computers and bay markings, warehousemen who cannot find the goods, or we have to wait while the paperwork is processed. And at offloading there is no place for the goods. And these people have BS5750!

What chance has the haulage industry to perform efficiently with people like that? I have heard that customers will not load vehicles whose companies do not have BS5750. As if it's our fault that we cannot operate efficiently...
