• Wincanton has begun a £75m/five-year Texaco contract — previously handled by Tankfreight — as wrangles continue over the status of the drivers. Wincanton says the 250 tanker drivers working on the contract, many of whom are exTankfreight employees, are working under its terms and conditions.
Tankfreight had earlier insisted that the drivers were transferred to Wincanton as part of a Transfer of Undertakings package, which would have made Wincanton responsible for any redundancy payments.
Wincanton says the contract has got off to a good start; it expects to clarify the position of the drivers once the operation is firmly under way.
