SO soon as Yorkshire operators have had an opportunity to examine the Government's road haulage scheme, it is intended to hold a Leeds mass meeting, open to all hauliers, for discussion of the project.

Councilor Charles Holdsworth, of Halifax, who, as a member of the Road Haulage (Operations) Advisory Committee, was one of those who formulated the scheme, told our Yorkshire correspondent that at this meeting he would be prepared to answer questions concerning any points on which elucidation was sought.

" We have tried to make the scheme as democratic as is humanly possible, and to ensure that everybody from the smallest haulier upwards has a fair deal," be said. " Our aim throughout the whole Of our discussions has been to safeguard the Nation against any eventuality which may occur in any' part of the country, by planning the • provision of quick and efficient transport. To hacness the whole of the road haulage industry to meet the country's needs through a national scheme in which every operator can participate should, iii itself, be a protection to the Nation."

LEEDS TRADER TRAINING • WOMEN MECHANICS

Vf /OMEN are being trained by IT Rowland Winn, Ltd., the Leeds motor-engineering concern, to take the places of men mechanics who are, or will be, on service with the Forces. There are now six under training, and the company hopes to build up a staff of about 20 women mechanics. As the .heavier jobs are considered to be unsuitable for them, the women are being instructed in such work as valve grinding, cleaning of cylinder heads, puncture repairs, and wheel changing. Instruction begins with the dissembling of Vehicles, so as to familiarize the pupils with the vannais parts.
