ROAD haulage costs have risen by 211,per cent in the first three months of this year, according to Road Haulage Association figures out this week.
This new increase follows a 15 per cent rise in costs during 1975 and does not include the recent '71p a gallon rise in fuel costs or the wage rises that were awarded by some hauliers in January.
The RI-IA blames rises in the costs of repairs and new vehicles for the rise, but says there will almost certainly be variations in the figures over the country.
Variations can be due to factors such as a high concentration of small hauliers in one area or a large percentage of short-distance hauliers.
