EXPORTS of commercial vehicles in the first quarter of this year were up by more than half on the same period last year—and their value rose by 82 per cent.
Imports of commercial vehicles are still running at less than one-sixth of the export figure. In March we imported £8.4m worth of corn-. mercials—up by 31 per cent— compared with exports worth £55.5m.
Sales overseas of components, parts and accessories also rose by 36 per cent to a level nearly 3i times the figure for imports at £350m.
The figures issued by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that despite the rapid growth of foreign makes in the car field in Britain, we still dominate the world truck market.
